EIGC (INTERNATIONAL FIELD RECORDING MEETING)

“El Salado” Estuary, Puerto Vallarta

For 2019, seven years later it is proposed to make the second edition of the EIGC in Puerto Vallarta, under the premise of sound conservation. Puerto Vallarta is a destination that has been affected by poor planning and urbanization. Despite this, it remains a noble space with a vast natural wealth. That is why it is proposed that in the EIGC a work of recovery of the soundscape of Estero El Salado be done, in which you can work together with academics of the UDG and students of Biology of CUCOSTA, Instituto Vallartense de Cultura, Jefatura de Arte Sonoro y Música,  and Estero el Salado.

The Mental Care Center Live Sessions

Yair López and his Tecuala’s Latin-Sampledelic Orchestra

Ah, Qué Ambientazo!!

This mini-Album is as musically odd as technically unique, an authentic sonic achievement in its own right; it belongs to those schizophrenic aesthetic realms found in weirdly attractive albums like Uwe Schmidt’s Los Negritos or Balboa’s Plastic Judas on Fire. Here you’ll travel across the common musical ambiance found in places like marisquerías, cantinas and public transportation around Mexico… buses or taxis, for sure your Mexican subconscious recall that Sonoras and Boleros, but in this particular case, according to current social times, those common places suddenly turned out to hide a mad man behind inducing through sound processing a psychotic outbreak in those musically-candid pieces of our hurtful romantic but quite colorful, popular culture

Yair López [Seeing Hearing, Cryptic, Clinical Archives] describes his sonic Latin roller coaster ride called Tecuala’s LSO with this short anecdote:

“Tecuala is an important region on the Nayarit State in Mexico. Well known for excellent seafood and Corn Gorditas. Is there where the suns goes down and you are carrying a Pacifico beer. But isn’t just food, beer, beach, terrible weather or sex… In addition, I can say that Tecuala is the place where I found my Orchestra (some retired fishermen and merchants).

I felt a strong connection with the Tecualeños and decide to put together the “Tecuala´s Latin Sampledelic Orchestra”. We had no instruments and no place to rehearse either but we got drunk again and again until the Mental Care brings us instruments and a big rehearse hall. So, here you are, enjoy this as much we did.”

Apocryphal Book of a Cat and a Hunter´s Rewards

This “Book” tells a story about the relationship between a man a cat called Hypocenter. The man collects rewards that his lovely cat has brought him; the man is a hunter too, so he collects his own rewards and put them in a container next to each other’s. This is a small text build for a mini sound sculptures that introduce the monsters and tells stories very strong related to these rewards. The project has a few ways to be seen: as an audiovisual performance, installation, mini pieces or “interactive” book.

Yair’s residency is part of Seeing Hearing UK Mexico, a three-year collaboration between the UK and Mexico made possible with the support of Anglo Arts, the cultural department of The Anglo Mexican Foundation A.C.; British Council Mexico; CMMAS (Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras) and Cryptic
